Join us for an Afro-dance workshop!
March 21. 6-8pm. Beginner friendly!
Mercy is a local artist and an Afro-house dance/artist who blends Afrobeat, Afrohouse, dancehall, and Kizomba dance styles, which bring the diaspora vibrant and energetic dances from Africa. The dances blend traditional African movements with modern urban styles, with a combination of body isolations, intricate footwork, and rhythmic expression that tell a story. The dance workshop is great for anyone; no dance experience needed.
Setting the Score: Dance Scoring with Stevi Rose
March 28. 11am-3:30pm.
Scoring is a way of creating dance & performance by designing a structured set of cues, actions, & conditions that shape how movement & events unfold. Rather than fixing choreography in advance, a creative framework is designed to allow for improvisation and emergent forms to arise in real time, coordination choice, timing, and relationship between dancers and space. This experimental workshop will teach principles & methods for using scoring in the creation of dance & art.
Donations accepted. Suggested $20-$60. No one turned away for lack of funds! All proceeds will be donated to La Resistencia.

$17-25 sliding scale
This class introduces floor work tricks and sequences along with principles of modern dance. Pants and/or knee pads are helpful! We typically have some extra at the studio. This class involves learning to build "rolling surfaces" between your body and the floor, some of which may result in bruising or calluses. Each sequence has several "off-ramps" so students can work towards the next level at their own pace while gaining the necessary strength and coordination. This is an all levels class best suited for intermediate movers.
